For landscape contractors, pride in being American is an integral part of the business. Hard work, supporting the community, and honoring service members is a given — and giving back to organizations like Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops is one way to show it.

Last month, the Propane Education & Research Council presented a $5,000 donation to Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops program, an organization that connects families of active-duty deployed service members with professional lawn, landscape, and snow removal volunteers in all 50 states.

The program, now in its 13th year, has helped more than 11,000 military families receive services, and has seen more than 6,000 lawn and landscape contractors register to provide services. Contractors who volunteer with the program provide free services to eligible families in their area for the length of their deployment, typically nine to 12 months.

On behalf of each contractor who entered PERC’s in-booth trailer giveaway sweepstakes at the GIE+EXPO, $5 was added to a donation for the GreenCare for Troops program. PERC rounded up the total donation to $5,000 after seeing how many lawn and landscape professionals participated in growing the donation. Additionally, Project EverGreen also reported that a large number of contractors signed up to volunteer at the nonprofit’s GIE booth after hearing about the program at the PERC booth.

Contractors who volunteer with the program are matched with eligible military families based on zip code and services requested.
