Federal parks across the country are reducing emissions — and in some cases, the size of their fuel budgets — by using portable and standby generators and grounds maintenance equipment powered by propane. Yellowstone, for instance, has used propane since spring of 2014 in a variety of applications. Generac’s 6kW propane EcoGen standby generator is used to supply power to the Yellowstone Association West Thumb Bookstore located on the park grounds, and portable propane generators are used in the park’s electrical shop and its several craft shops. A video and a downloadable case study highlight Blue Ridge Parkway, Yellowstone, and Mammoth Cave national parks, illustrating how businesses and organizations in locations without natural gas can operate key equipment in an environmentally sensitive way.
