Established by the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act, the Clean School Bus Program has $5 billion in funding over the next 5 years (FY 2022–2026), to include up to $500 million each year for Clean School Buses, which includes Propane, CNG, LNG, electric, and hydrogen and up to $500 million each year for zero emission school buses.

New funding has been announced by the EPA to help replace your school district’s diesel buses with the 2024 Clean School Bus Rebates Program.

The deadline to apply is January 9, 2025. Don’t delay – program guidance and the application process have changed, making it important to review the Program Guide and summary of program requirements before applying.

Eligible Applicants

  • State and local government:
    • Those responsible for providing bus service to 1 or more public school systems; or the purchase, lease, license, or contract for service of school buses
  • Public school districts:
    • Those responsible for the purchase, lease, license, or contract for service school buses
  • Contractors:
    • OEMs, dealers, private school bus fleets, etc.
  • Tribal organizations and tribally controlled schools:
    • Those responsible for providing bus service to 1+ Bureau-funded schools; or the purchase, lease, license, or contract for service of school buses
  • Nonprofit school transportation associations

Get Ready to Apply for Propane

  • Confirm your eligibility at EPA.gov.
  • Set up an account with SAM.gov and register to apply for the EPA CSB Rebates.
  • Ensure that your account has the right Point of Contact listed to have access to the EPA Clean School Bus Portal.

Take Advantage of Propane Rebates

Maximum Propane School Bus Funding

  • Applicants can receive between $20,000 – $35,000 in funding per propane bus for up to 50 buses.
  • ADA compliant buses qualify for an additional $20,000 in funding per bus.
