Texas’ crippling freeze in February 2021 showed that few regions across the United States are spared from extreme weather. And it demonstrated the value for builders of preparing for natural disasters and unpredictable weather events. In Builder magazine, Aly Yale reports on the efforts some builders are taking when severe weather is in the forecast.
“If the forecast points to freezing temperatures, other preventative actions can be taken,” Yale writes. “According to Michael Turner, owner of Classic Urban Homes in the Dallas area, this might include shutting off the water, draining the water lines, and making sure the home has temporary heat. ‘We pay very close attention to the weather,’ Turner says. ‘I try to be proactive so that I’ve got it prepared to where we could work through cold and freezing temperatures and not delay the overall timeframe of the project.’”
Many builders across the country rely on propane temporary heating to keep jobsites thawed during the coldest winter months. Propane generators can also provide jobsite power for builders in sales or construction trailers, and help builders bounce back quickly from weather events when they’re ready to resume construction.
