Project Summary

PGANE wishes to support the propane industry's investment in propane autogas vehicles and propane fueled lawnmowers. This project will entail a Roush propane autogas pickup with a trailer towing a Dixie Chopper propane fueled lawn mower. By taking this rig to landscapers, golf courses, meetings, and propane companies we can demonstrate the environmentally friendly and efficient use of propane as an engine fuel. The trailer could also be used by marketers for similar demonstrations. In addition we will participate in up to 3 grower shows throughout the region in the next year.

Statement of the Project

PGANE wishes to support the propane industry's investment in propane autogas vehicles and propane fueled lawnmowers. This project will entail a Roush propane autogas pickup with a trailer towing a Dixie Chopper propane fueled lawn mower. By taking this rig to landscapers, golf courses, meetings, and propane companies we can demonstrate the environmentally friendly and efficient use of propane as an engine fuel. The trailer could also be used by marketers for similar demonstrations. In addition we will participate in up to 3 grower shows throughout the region, including JLC Live New England Grows, and AltWheels (a Clean Cities regional show). The purpose on attending these shows is to allow potential users to touch, try, and drive these products and answer questions on performance, fuel economy, and maintenance based on our trials. We also plan to participate in the 6 state Clean Cities meetings as appropriate. As an example, NH is doing an all propane clean cities day on December 6th, 2011 where we will present along with our member partners. The benefit of this project is to support greater use of propane fueled commercial mowers along with propane autogas vehicles. The goal of this initiative is to capture performance data on the vehicle, collect feedback regarding the products demonstrated, and collect anecdotal operational characteristics to aid in further refinement of the technology. We will work with local landscaping associations and the clean cities coalitions in the New England states to accomplish these goals.

Cost Benefit Analysis

By supporting the propane industry's new technology investment in propane fueled engines and applications we are helping the environment, demonstrating the efficiency of propane, and aiding in further refinement of these new technologies.

Evaluation Statement

This project will be measured by the number of demonstrations, estimated at 50 for the year. This project will build a data base of potential users of this equipment and will utilize propane marketers in its execution. Performance data on the vehicle, feedback regarding the products demonstrated, type of audiences the products were demonstrated for, and anecdotal operational characteristics to aid in further refinement of the technology.
