Landscaper Cutting More Grass, Costs with Propane Mowers

As a way to improve its bottom line, landscape contractor Barnes, Inc., purchased five propane mowers in 2014. After seeing the results, today the company has replaced all but its largest mowers with propane.

Seventy-five propane-powered mowers later, Barnes, based in Madison, Wis., successfully cares for more than 1,000 residential and commercial properties and saves hundreds of thousands of dollars doing it.

Its commitment to using propane has made an impact on the company’s short-term expenses, and now will for the long term, too.

Real Savings

  • Since 2014, the company has paid as little as $1 per gallon for propane.
  • PERC’s Propane Mower Incentive Program, which offers contractors up to $1,000 for each new, dedicated propane mower purchase or $500 for each new qualified propane conversion kit, helped with the initial purchase of each mower.
  • Improved mower performance with propane reduced downtime for repairs, and the company experienced fewer maintenance issues associated with dirty engines.
