The Department of Energy says its new energy conservation standards for residential furnace fans “will help reduce carbon pollution by up to 34 million metric tons and save Americans more than $9 billion in home electricity bills through 2030,” Joanna Turpin reports for ACHR News. The standards are somewhat unusual in that they regulate the energy efficiency of individual components, rather than the entire system. While making furnace fans more efficient could save homeowners money in the long run, it remains to be seen how these regulations will affect the upfront cost of residential furnaces.
