President Trump promised to reduce regulations, and in the early months of his administration, he’s following through. Contracting Business reporter Bob Mader writes that the regulations under review include several that affect the HVAC business. “The list of affected products included boilers, central air conditioners and heat pumps, furnaces, residential water heaters,” and a long list of other products, he says. Mader also speaks with Francis Dietz, vice president of public affairs for the Air-Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Institute, who says the rule raising the minimum efficiency for gas furnaces to 92 percent AFUE is dead. “All [Department of Energy] would have accomplished with that move, which ignored human nature and basic economics, was to ensure that no gas furnaces would be sold in the South ever again,” Mader writes.
