The Wall Street Journal’s Aili McConnon reports on the increasing popularity of built-in backyard barbecues. “These days at least 75% of sales of high-end grill companies like Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet, Alfresco Open Air Culinary Systems and RH Peterson are generated by built-in models, versus cart versions,” McConnon writes. “And that percentage has steadily increased over the last 10 years.” Builders and their clients may not realize they can offer exterior stubs to connect outdoor gas grills to a home’s propane storage system, just as they can for natural gas. While some of these high-end grills allow chefs to switch between gas, charcoal, and even wood, the convenience and safety of push-button ignition have long made propane grills a customer favorite.
