The desire for more and better data on building operations is driving the use of smart technology throughout commercial projects, from tracking water consumption to zoning heating and cooling for occupant comfort. Included on the list of smart systems are, increasingly, rooftop HVAC units, which have long been a go-to option for running forced-air heating and cooling. “Rooftops will continue to get smarter and more integrated in how they are designed and operate,” Chris Opie, director of North American commercial marketing for Carrier Corp., told ACHR News. “Likely, they’ll be more intuitive in nature while taking on more precise control and data collection of complex components and networks.”
